Fake WhatsApp Communities on LinkedIn: A Growing Threat to Professional Trust

 

People do many things for cheap popularity - but it’s truly concerning that this trend has now reached LinkedIn.

A platform meant for jobs, business, learning, and meaningful knowledge sharing.

Over the past 3 months, I’ve repeatedly seen posts claiming:

“I’m creating a WhatsApp community/group where professional founders, CEOs, and digital marketers will connect. You can collaborate, share posts, get job opportunities, attend meetings…”

At the end of such posts, there’s always a familiar line:
👉 “Comment +1, drop your WhatsApp number, or DM to join.”

These posts sound attractive - much like false promises made by manipulative politicians: big claims, strong words, but zero execution.

📌 What actually happens?

📈 The person posting gets massive engagement and publicity
👀 Their profile visibility boosts rapidly
🤝 People get hope for jobs, networking, and collaboration
💬 Commenters even interact among themselves

But the reality is:
❌ No WhatsApp group is created
❌ No invite is sent
❌ No follow-up message ever comes

I personally commented on 5–6 such posts, and till date, I haven’t been added to a single group.

& It’s not just me - many professionals have faced the same experience.

👉 Honestly, this has become a new way to create fake engagement and visibility on LinkedIn, and it’s slowly turning into a form of scam 🚨.

⚠️ This behavior is causing serious damage:

❌ Trust among professionals is breaking

❌ Genuine users are getting disappointed

❌The dignity and credibility of LinkedIn is being diluted

Many people genuinely wait and hope to find valuable communities for learning and networking 🤝, but instead, their trust and emotions are taken lightly 💔.

🙏 A humble request to all professionals:

🔹 Stay cautious of such posts

🔹 Avoid sharing your number or engagement without verification

🔹 Report misleading content when needed

🔹 Call out false promises respectfully

✔️ Either honor your commitments
❌ Or stop playing with people’s trust and expectations

LinkedIn is not just another social media platform -

it is a professional ecosystem built on trust, credibility, and values 🌱.
