Not Rejected - Just Mismanaged: A Real Interview Experience

A few years ago (around 2019–2020), I had an experience that still stays with me. On the same day, two hiring agencies scheduled my interview for the same company in Noida (Sector 10) - for an SEO Expert role.

I reached the office with full preparation and expectations.
An employee asked me to sit and began with the usual question:
“Tell me about yourself.”

I politely responded that most of my details were already mentioned in my resume. Still, I shared my journey-how I’ve been involved in blogging, designing, and content writing since 2017.

He appreciated my multi-skill background… but then shifted the discussion entirely.

He started asking about:
• PSD design in Adobe tools
• Website structuring
• Client requirement mapping

I clarified that I had experience with WordPress, Blogspot, and content creation-but I was there for an SEO profile.

His response surprised me:
“The SEO interviewer is not available today.”

After asking me to wait, I was informed a few minutes later that the interview wouldn’t happen.

That’s it. No prior communication. No coordination. No respect for time.
This wasn’t about rejection.

This was about process failure and lack of professionalism.
In today’s fast-paced world, time is one of the most valuable assets-for both companies and candidates.

Experiences like these make you reflect:
Is it better to wait for such opportunities… or build your own path?

That phase eventually pushed me closer to freelancing and entrepreneurship-and I’m grateful for it today.

Have you ever faced something similar in your career journey?
If yes, then
Let’s discuss. 👇
